Am I too old to learn how to play the violin?

Are you? What means too old anyways? I could write a post about why you shouldn’t feel old at all, at any age. You had the gift of a new dawn today. What are you going to do with it? Are you going to make the best of it?

When I wake up in the morning, I shake hands with myself from yesterday. I tell her how proud I am of her and I am looking forward to the new day. When I go to sleep at night, I shake hands with myself from tomorrow. I tell her I did a good job today and I am looking forward to meeting her tomorrow.

What about you? What are you telling yourself every morning and evening? Stop and analyze the words you say to yourself. Do they serve you or keep you locked from doing the things you are dreaming to do? Is one of your dreams about learning how to play the violin? The question is: are you going to take action and bring it into reality, or, keeping it in a dream mode?

Honestly, I don’t care how old you are. If you are still breathing, then you should take action towards your dreams. No excuses.

So… “Am I too old to learn how to play the violin” is not such a good question. A good question would be: “How am I going to learn how to play violin?” Now you are on the right path.

How? By taking action. Step by step. Find a music store, go in and look at violins. Ask the people from the store to show you a violin. An old one.  As old as possible. Smell it, feel it, see it. Look at all the gaps and all the wrinkles, all the shiny spots and all the paint that is gone. All the curves and all the scratches.  Then, ask someone to play it for you. They should have a specialist who is able to play a few notes. How does it sound??? Listen with your eyes closed. With all the imperfections, it is able to create such beautiful sounds. It can play symphonies if it is in the right hands! The question is: What are you going to do with your hands, mind and desires? Are you going to just look at them? From a spectator’s point of view? Or are you going to create your own life’s symphony every day, every moment? Pick up the violin, reach out to a teacher and put your fingers to work, put your mind to think, move your desires into reality!
